Irrational Films

Passion is irrational…

For the last few years, Irrational Films has been responsible for the video production work of DanceTeamUnion, one of the largest dancing competitions in the United States. Beyond this, Irrational Films is also involved in the production of various indie films, including Hideout and Goodbye, Petrushka.

The importance of scheduling…

My work at Irrational Films started as a pre-editor for DanceTeamUnion’s 2020 Nationals event. The project was to create an overview video of the entire three day event to present right before the awards ceremony, to hype up the crowd. As a pre-editor, I was responsible for collecting footage from videographers, organizing content, creating backups, and pulling clips for the main editor to help create a cohesive storyline in our video.

With all footage used being taken during the event, we only had 3 days to complete the video. Scheduling and coordination became key to our success. I helped plan SD card drop-off times for videographers, whilst balancing backup processes and organization.

My ability to meet tough deadlines would once again be challenged when I accepted an editing job at Irrational Films during the summer of 2020, where I was in charge of editing entire hour long dance recitals together. Because of COVID-19, many scheduled dance competitions had become virtual competitions, introducing the need for these videos. These edits sometimes involved green-screening, multi-camera editing, and compositing work to complete. Typically, I would only have days to complete a single recital, and I would be in charge of multiple recitals a week. This immense workload helped me learn ways to balance projects, and drilled into my head the importance of scheduling.

I continued to help Irrational Films out as a videographer and editor for live events both in 2021 and 2022.
